yeah it was taking longer than i thought to go through the irish DVLA or something. got all my documents through today so fitted it

How long do plates usually take from uk dvla from purchase to being on the car?

Jades took a few weeks to come from the DVLA cherished transfer thingy where she bought it from, then about 2-3 weeks to send off & return the forms/tax etc allowing you to put it on the car

or once you have all your documents through saying you own the plate you can take them along with your log book to your local dvla office and get put on that day, they sort out your logbook and new tax disk then all you have to do is inform your insurance company.
