The rover is meant to be nippy and the engine is decent, I like the rarity and the BRM heritage being a motorsport fan

A colleague at work has 172 and loves it, says it fast and handling is good. I have a clio but its only 1.2 16v but with 17s and lowered it handles superbly.
Only thing we both have had problems with is the seal on the sunroof. So look for leaks around that, apart from that should be sound.

BRM 160bhp, LSD and the interior is immense! not to mention the history behind it etc, would be my choice!

Haven't driven any..... but ffs do not buy that rover has to be the worst looking performance car ever...... people will also think your a geek..... and just look at it..... didn't know their was much heritage in a rover just because they painted the grill orange

French Car magazine (formerly PGTi) have one as a project car, was over 200bhp without TBs, there might be info on their site.
Look at K-tec and BBTuning's sites too.

I like the Clio, as long as it's the shape you posted and not the one with the triangular lights.
306 is also cool though.
I'd say the 172 would be the better car (more equipment in it), the 306 would be the better investment.
