Filled the tank during the week. I have done 115 miles and my needle is just sat 1 notch above the red.
Havnt noticed it being this bad before.
Not too fussed long term because as soon as my LET is rebult its going in.
Current engine is a 1.2 8 v but the cars very heavy.
I am going to get it checked out but just wondering what possible problems it could be?

Cheers guys, Steve

i'd say it was yer.
I have got a cat back exhaust with 2.5 inch bore ready for the engine conversion btu i dont think that would affect it much

a cat back wouldnt affect fuel that much. its difficult to say what is causing it as the only thing i think could cause that sort of fuel consumption on a 1.2 is a fuel leak somewhere

...great. cheers for your help mate.
could it be because of the weight of the car, larger wheels and the tiny engine all combined.
Even when i put the rims on i notcied the consumption get worse but this really takes the piss. I may aswell get something quick and run it lol

the bigger wheels will affect it. what size were your standard wheels and what size are your new ones?
how do you mean your car is heavier? in what way?

only 17's mate, when it was standard it had 13" steels i think. The car is heavier due to the amount of shite thats on and in it i.e. the kit, alot of ice etc etc.
As you can probably tell i am not good when it comes to engines however might it be worth looking at the AFM and other sensors?

tbh if it was the AFM or anything like that it would be running really rich to get that sort of fuel consumption and i think you would notice it running a bit lumpy.
the wheels will be a lot heavier and will take more power to turn them.
TBH i think it is a combination of your wheels and car being heavier than the engine can cope with which in turn means you have to use more revs to get moving
more revs=using more fuel.... hope this helps.

it does mate.....its a shame as the engines only done about 49k. Do you happen to know how many mpg a typical LET in a corsa has? want to work out how better or worse off i'm going to be lol

the guages are common problems but if it was the guage it would fluctuate and not ju go down all the time

if its faulty, then its easy way to check it... Just buy a 1 galon tank from garage (£3?) fill it up, put in the boot and drive until you have got no petrol

when the fuel light comes on doesnt that mean you've got 20 miles before ya dry up like a prune? obviously if you 'rag' the gas pedal then its not so true.

My light will flick on when starting the car then go off 1/2 mile down the road

well u have got to check it... ur sensor might not work propley. In my corsa when its on red i can still do round 90 miles but mine model is older so it will be diferent. Just drive, and when ur light comes up check how many miles you will do until your car stop Make sure u have got emergency fuel in the boot
