my mate's 18 on a toyota mr2 1994 twin turbo for 1600 a year because he's on his dads insurance now. swapped himself as the main driver for his dad when he bought it.
i'd guess do that - go on direct line or sumthing, then you can still get your no claims.
edit - i think hemight be on the AA

Im 19 with no ncb 3 points and a few suble mods. For a cav red top i got quoted 3000 of adrian flux. I went under my dads name on a 1.2 for only 500 for the both of us, so try this if possible. Havent tried to get quoted for the new engine under his name yet though

ring them for a 'proper' quote. they sent me a renewal for £840 for my pug gti-6, i told them to get stuffed as elehant quoted me 550. they said we'll match it plus protect you n claims etc
so i saved nearly £300 by making up a cheaper quote  (oh plus i got 10% OC discount)

adrian flux wanted 1700 tpft im 20 no bonus, 1 partial fault claim in 2005, no points and been driving since 2004. declared wheels, suspension, interior and exhaust
