X14xe, has new plugs and leads. Ive tried a DIS off a scrappy and no change (i cannot be sure it was a good one since it was from a scrappy). The problem is, you can hear it popping now and then, which i think is the main thing throwing the emissions up. I sounds a bit like the exhaust backfiring , but only quiet faint. It has a cat and center silencer fitted, so there ought to be enough back pressure. It has std airbox and filter fitted.
The test results were:
2803rpm
1.08% vol Fail
256ppm Fail
1.207 Fail
then second go:
2820rpm
0.65% vol Fail
111ppm Pass
1.152 Fail
it passed the natural idle test with flying colours:
0.06% vol
Ive just fitted a new pattern cat, the car runs on premium fuel with fuel additives. ive just done a paperclip test which showed up lambda, but i was expected it to be worse on the HC part if it was the Lambda.
will probably be buying and fitting a new Gen. lambda in the morning, but does anyone have any over ideas.

Give CTS and coil a go as well, should be about a tenner for both of them from a scrap yard.
Also, try cleaning your lambda with some carb cleaner before shelling out on a new one.

what do you mean by coil? will give cleaning the lambda a try, as the readings dont seem that bad.
thanks for the quik reply.

The coil is bolted just infront of the battery on the right hand side of the engine, it's what gives the spark to the distributor.....

i thought any coil would be integral to the DIS. do u mean like the lead to the ignition switch or the ecu...
does anyone know of a way to test the resistance of the primary/low- tension circuit safely. also is it worth checking any earthing points in particular.

yep, new gen. sparkies and leads. Would i acheive anything by stripping the DIS and looking for corrosion/ contact damage. maybe spray a bit of electrical cleaner and then dry it off, or wud this cause more trouble than its worth.

x14xe, I sorry, I got mixed up, was thinking of 1.4 8v.
Still, a DIS pack from scrappy shouldn't be too much either, I was quoted around £15 iirc for a 20XE one when I had my calibra.

eml sometimes comes on after 20-30minutes of running and shows EGR fault (probably to do with the aftermarket inlet manifold) and a Heated exhaust gas sensor (lambda) fault.
