got a couple of problems with mine.it won't idle very well.sometimes it just dies.the revs go up and down when its idling.if you rev it it's ok but if you try and hold the revs on at say about 2.5 k its miss fires very bad and the revs just drop right off then they will come back up again.so far i have changed plugs,leads,dizzy cap,rotor arm,air flow meter,throttle position sensor.also does the tps sensor have to be in a certain position?any help much appreciated

its on the back of the block up right up the top (its a bugger to get to)

You need to be under the car to get to it. Clean it out with a bit of carb cleaner.

mgt help it to idle. theres a pipe that goes from the sfi box/ powercap under the inlet and into the icv. then connects to the underside of the inlet to bypass the tb thus giving sufficent airflow to alow the engine to idle. as said above take it off and give it a good clean. pulse it open and shut with a 12v supply to get all the gunk out. if its missing at 2.5k wont be icv as the throttle is open. i would try crank posistion sensor if you havnt already as iirc this is what gives the ecu its firing points for the coil. correct me if ime wrong. they are renowned for breaking

right i took the icv off cleaned it out.now its revving like mad.and when you drive its going by its self.the revs seem to stick at about 2.5k-3k.

update its not revving like mad anymore but its still going up and down a bit/hunting.also it has no power and seems very slow

clean it more and give it a light spray of wd40 when done and renew the crank sensor ..

the crank sensor is not very old.but i took it out and its was covered in crap so i cleaned it and it ran better.it seem to have a slight miss now.it trys to go on its own when your driving.it feels ok whem accelerating normaly but when you put your foot down theres nothing there

ok had another bit of a play with it today.noticed that cyldinder no.2 spark plug lead looks like it might not have been making a good conection.as there is some dust like stuff on the top of the plug and in the lead its self.i also noticed that it seemed to be pushing its self of the plug so i switched the plugs round and it stopped doing it.when i drive it now the revs move up and down on idle but not that much.when you put your foot down though it has no power and seems to struggle to rev.when driving normally it miss fires and you can feel it slightly jerking.any ideas?

try changing the coolant temp sensor. located next to the thermostat.

thanks for your help people.today i have noticed somethink that may be the cause to my problems.
1.coolant pipes pressurising
2.when the engine is run with the expansion tank cap off it spits the water out.
3.smell of carbon in the expansion tank.

so tomorrow its time to do the head gasket.if this dos'ent clear the miss i will try the other things people have said

do the test first otherwise its pointless in taking the head off. test compression for cylinder/cylinder and obviously if its blown coolant>water or vice versa youll find mayo all over the headertank/ oil cap

not if its blown across the water jacket to the cylinder you wont.the pipes were pressurising and there was a definate smell of carbon in the expansion tank after it had boiled over.
