So if the wheel is 166mm (6.5") wide, divide that by 2, to get 83mm.

Measure the distance from the back of the wheel, say 100mm.

Take 83 from 100 and get 17, the wheel offset is ET17.

If that makes sense?

Actually measure the wheel though, don't go on the numbers on it, they won't be right to work it out as they're measured between the lips, not outside.

Yeah, if you hold something flat across the back of the wheel (bit of wood will do) and measure the distance from that to the mounting face in a straight line, obviously, then subtract that from half the wheel width, you've got it.

So thinking about it, if ive got the correct offset for the car which in my case is ET15, then the brakes shouldnt sit any further behind the wheel than if the wheels were the perfect offset?

That depends on the spoke design really.

Something with a big dish behind the spoke would have more clearance than something with a flat one.

There wouldn't be any difference in the way the disc sits in relation to the wheel, but the caliper might have less space.

My calipers are currently sitting very far back compared to what I imagine the perfect set up would look like, and the calipers have plenty of space. I think the problem was with suspension clearance which may be down to the tyres. This is currently pissing me off though!

Im going to get some 206gti brakes and want to have my wheels done in black and was going to hammerite the calipers gold or silver to tidy it up. The brakes look really far back behind the wheels though and look a bit weird really, just wanted them a bit closer to the wheel cos it looks cack, its only aesthetical.

The 206 calipers are bigger though yeah? They might sit slightly closer... my V6 ones on my Corsa were (marginally) closer than the original ones as they were larger.

Yeah only VERY slightly though and the wont move. I just wanted to find out what offset these were so I could get some spacers which suited. My ones now are about 20mm and probably too big.

Don't know if all TD's are all the same but.....

On mine, on the back, look round the lip. It has been etched in. But you can only see it if you get the light in the correct angle.
