interesting segment at the back. heres the gist of it...
Everyone knows him best for heroically trying to save williamson from death (If you havent seen it, type in roger williamson crash into youtube), but apartently hes also well known for sustaining the highest g-force in a crash and surviving. he survived 178g
this was at silverstone in 1977, basically his throttle stuck open and he slammed into a wall at 108mph. His car stopped almosted immediately- within 66cm. 108mph-0 in just over half a meter
this man is a true racing legend, yet only ever competed in eight grand prix.

i can't seem to find the actual bit where he hits the barriers and stops within 66cm.
but yes, tis very upsetting and makes you think that it could be you when you are on the roads

I was just reading the other day about Purley on Wikipedia. I knew about incident with Williamson but i was like when i read about the 178g.
The guy is a legend, the video involving Williamson is an amazing and very moving watch. I think Robin got it spot on. He was a real man.

That is probably the most moving video I've ever watched.
My mum once told me a story from my dad's days on the amublances about a driver who had crashed and been trapped inside his burning car - my old man tried to get to him but the flames were too intense. The bit that haunts him to this day is apparently the moment the guy went silent, overcome by the fire.

Purley Tribute
A little tribute vid i found on YouTube. Nice little line at the end i thought "Heroes are not made heroes because they succeed merely they try while others do nothing"

prob the most distressing thing is he was absolutly helpful to save the poor guy, marshalls were astonishingly bad!
if only more of the drivers had stop even with those flames they would have been able to push the car over
sad sad video
