Pro's and Con's?
Been searching through ebay.com for Alienware latops.
Seems to be alot of them more than there is on .co.uk
But whats the downside to buying one from america?
Whats the chances of getting it through customs and the rest. How much would it cost and also would it still work in the UK because we use different volts.
230 - 240 for the uk and 110v for USA

Dont think it will get through customs without having to pay TAX IMHO....
But you never know...

Roughly how much would that cost?
I bought an Alpine amp from america a few months ago and it got to me no problem

Most laptop transformers work from 110-230v

Well thats good, My main problem is getting it through customs though.
Don't want to get a bargain then end up forking out a couple of hundred to get the parcel

I would factor in the cost of getting caught by customs, then if you don't its a bonus.

You could ask the sender to send it to you as a commercial sample. I think that means you dont get taxed aslong as he puts on the invoice thats its free. He could send you a normal one in the post

I would also consider getting a block of wood of the same weight as the laptop... I read it somewhere that they send the wook well packaged in a laptop box and send them 'signed for' delivery...you would get your delivery but how to prove that you didnt get the laptop unless you open the box in front of the delivery man

Sure the package can be marked as a present and you will not get charged at customs.

Obviously would check his feedback. Make sure it was worth buying an expensive item all the way from america.
But i have also heard stories about people doing that. Was on bbc3's Real Hustle the other month

IF customs notice you're inporting a package you'll be liable for import duty and VAt on the full RRP of the product.
Also, it's a bit of a nightmare to take it back to the shop if something goes wrong with it!

So im probably best of just buying it in the UK for a reasonable price instead of trying to get a good deal

Electronics goods are exempt from duty, but you have to pay VAT if it's worth more than £18.

I bought a dell laptop from ebay from america, saved about 100 quid and if anything goes wrong I phone dell uk.
Just as easy as buying it from here.
How many alienware shops do you see about?
Gift thing doesn't work all the time either.
