this attitude makes me laugh from people who don't gamble.
You can't say 'he should of taken 2k and walked'.
He could of had that attitude when he was at £100 and walked then, and never reached 2k!
Similarily he could of gone on to win 10k, and if he had taken 2k he would of missed out on that chance.
Don't you watch deal or no deal You can never say 'you should of taken that' - as it can always go either way. Of course looking back, we should of all taken the money just before we lost, but we can't kick ourselves as if your going to be cautious enough to constantly take the money, you'll end up never getting much money to take anyway (as you won't gamble).
my thought exactly

agree with that
I usually just have a little flutter after pay day. Set myself the amount I can afford to lose i.e. I won't notice if it was gone (would of lost on a single drinking session anyway), once I lose it all, I stop (don't go chasing to get my money back), and perhaps play again next month after pay day.
If I win, I imediately take out the money I originally gambled and put that back in my bank.
So the rest of the money is 'won money'. I then either just take the rest back out and put it in my bank account or leave some in the account to have another bet with.
whatever happens, I don't go over the limit I set myself to spend and take the attitude that any won money (i.e. in profit) was never mine in the first place and was never needed. Therefore if I lose the money I won, I don't care, as long as I've not lost the original amount I bet with (i.e. the first deposit).

so for example in your poker situation, if you lost now. I wouldn't think shit you lost a ticket worth $1040! and a chance at $150k!
I'd think you lost $3.75. As that was all you actually spent and the rest of the money was never actually there in your hand.
It's very easy to get detached from the actual 'money' side of things and just see numbers.
I know the sort of people who play 'poker professionally' online, gamble thousands of pounds a night and can go up or down thousands - but don't even flinch. It's because they're numbers until it gets into your bank it's not 'money'.
Also, getting effected by the feeling of 'losing money' or chasing to get that money back, usually makes you play stupid and lose all your money. So it's important to have a clear head and not get effected by 'Oh shit I had just won 2k, if only I'd of taken it then!'...

yeh same. Though lately, I've just been winning and taking the lot back out to my bank account, as generally when I leave money in my gambling account I just waste it on stupid bets. Where as to deposit new money back in requires me to really believe it's a good bet. Different with poker though, as to have control and power you need to have a nice large chunk of money in comparison to other players... Probably why I stopped playing online poker, you'd end up gambling it all going all in and boom, you've just lost your money.
My favourite at the moment is each way bets on things like sporting events, i.e. grand prix / moto gp / etc.
betting on each way either to finish in the top 3 or to win.
Pick someone who is likely to finish top 3, but not necisarily win (but there's always the chance). £20 each way... then if they come say 3rd you get a nice £50 or so profit, but if they win you get hundreds of pounds and they're relatively risk free.
I won a fair bit from hamilton in his first few races like this, as he kept finishing top 3. Thing is the bookies are starting to clock on and reduce hamiltons odds.
Colin edwards also on moto gp a few races back, had like 25-1 odds to win the race, but he qualified 4th, so using the logic he may be able to get into 3rd and stay there, I made a EW bet and netted £150 when he finished 3rd. Obviously there was always the chance he could of won too! which if that'd happened then it would of been in the money!!

oh yeh and I'm definately thinking next GP, a bet on 'to finish in the points' may be a worthwhile bet. i.e. people who are consistant and usually finish in points were getting odds of 7-1 or better. worth a shot, providing they don't get knocked off / mechanical problems.
I can't wait for the next race with rain though as people always fall off and you get unpredictable winners / people up front - ideal to make money from an underdog with high odds finishing well placed or just in the points.
