Firstly i dont want comments like:
"dont regester it - you'll get away with it"
"Insurance dont check so dont insure it"
Becasue quite frankly - STFU

Anyways, Who here has regestered there Engine conversion with DVLA/INSURANCE?

What questions were asked?
Did an engineers report need to be done (if so by a garage they send you too or one you pick)
Or
Do you just send the log book off with the new engine number?

Did you insurance require an engeneers report?

Did you need to RE-MOT your car?

If you went from a 1.6 to a 2ltr - did you need to pay Extra Tax?

Thanks ma little helpers

Also another question

if you have a '98 car but put a pre93 engine in, ive been told the MOT goes off the plate/year of the car rather then the engine.
this is for CAT/NO-CAT purpose's lol

All depend son your insurance company.. I've just insured mine this week and it says in the small print they may request a report but very unlikely imo.

As for log book, change engine capacity and number and send it off, don't need to re mot etc..

if you can prove where the engine came from, your lucky, but try convincing an MOT tester that is another matter

I still have to put a CAT on mine for MOT, but it will depend on where you go

Easiest way to remember is it goes by the earliest.. SO if it s apre cat engine you dont need a cat or if the car is pre cat but the engine isnt then it still doesnt need one..

Makes sense in my head.. lol

I prove it by mine being a coscast head which is only fitted to pre cat vauxhalls and I have the reg number of the car the engine came out.

and you cant swop the heads over

at the end of the day the MOT tester will do what they want to do. if they let you through then fair play to you

They would have to be a serious dick not to.. The MOT tester also has to prove to you that it requires a cat..

if they do, 99% of the time they will come and do it themselves. and you will more than likly go through specialist insurers who in my experience dont care

Be rite Gaz

Probably best asking someone like Adam B who has done a conversion how about these things, or pop into your local DVLA office.

All as i did was fill in the log book with new engine details and send it off.

Had the MOT tthis morning and when they put the details in it brought it up as a 2litre and i told them the engine was before 1992 and therefore didn't need a cat test and it was ok.

Hope this helps Gaz

Adrian Flux wanted to charge me extra as I fitted the engine myself. I thought that was quite offensive to be honest.

im with brentarce, who, to be honest, will only insure the extra BHP rather then the engine, which i think is quite cool.

So i would only insure an extra 50-60bhp say.

Your car is more than 100 bhp tho Gaz. It's a lot faster than mine which is pushing 100 bhp. Don't the 2 litres pull 150 - 160 bhp as standard.
