...WTF happened to them
Was looking on autotrader, and a late (98/99) below average miled, range topping 1.6 sport can be had for under £1500 .
I think it's more because i haven't been paying attention to them they seem stupidly low. I still remeber Ruby wax acting like a twat on the launch advert .
God I feel old

The thing which I don't agree with, is that an SXi is worth more than a 1.6 sport, even though the prices seem to reflect that.

we're all going to die
p.s. robin - could be due to the fact that an sxi will be cheaper to insure than a 1.6 sport and for first time driver's, it's an appealing car. (don't know how true this could be though)

What Adam said^
But yes you're also right about SXI prices, they do seem to go for more. Spec wise there very similar though (interior etc)

plus the sports etc, more common around here anyway for younger folks looking a hot hatch to go down the 106/vts route as they are faster etc. the sxi has a half decent spec with gd insurance, maybe thats why??

When i worked at Vauxhall in 99/00 we sold soooo many SXi's compared to Sports. Purely because they were cheaper to insure after the 2 years free finished.

They are old, common and not that great by today's standards, hence they are worth fuck all now. But I still love mine

Think i was just shocked 'cause i was looking at 106 GTi's the other day and in comparison, your looking at an extra £1k+ for a similarly aged/miled Gti.
Obviously the 106 is the better car, but with the extra money saved, it could go quite a long way to making up the difference IMO. also i've be buying one for a bit of fun/track car, and with the problems the GTi's have with the gearboxes, compared with very few problems with the sports i think it'd be the better choice in the long run .

The Sports dont seem to do well on the market. The high spec bastads such as the CDX and GLS AC, Club AC etc. seem to be holding their values, the sub 60k ones...

Maybe because the earliest one will be 7yrs old & the model has been superseeded twice!?

IMO
End of the day, they weigh less, have more power and handle better - that's enough to make it the better track car for me .

That has fuck all to do with the value of the car though.

Except it explains why 106 GTi's are worth more, and hence would be out of my price range

Supply & demand dictates the value of a car.......nothing else!!
Edit - thats the reason my alfa costing 19k new is worth less than a corsa/106/saxo of the same ago - 11k new.................no one wants one!!

Yeah, and the demands created by how good/desirable the car is, and how many there are.
