Yup, I know.....

I've never actually seen any videos of that manta, only pictures, so can't comment on its real performance. It just looks quick and with the engine spec it should be.

So the Manta is a Volvo engined Audi 5 pot??? Vauxhall have a 2.0 Turbo, Renault have a 2.0 Turbo, do they respond to the same tuning as good as each other

The Volvo and Audi engine design is identical Daimo, they use the same parts.

They might not be quick compared to a modern car with a modern 4wd system, BUT, the Quattro system (pre-haldex) is 30 years old, the engine is about the same. To me, running a 10 second 1/4 mile in a car that old is impressive.

Never said it wasn't, but running a 1/4 mile is easy. It doesn't mean its a quick car on the road, which is what im talking about. With a 1/4 mile, you only need a short powerband as thats where your in the revs all the time. On the road the powerband needs to be much much larger.

I see Beetles running 10's on the 1/4, and they are from the 1930's...... Age means nothing if you have the money to get the power from the engine.

What about the USA? They've had cars running 8's for donkeys years.

and the us, yes 8's. but there v8's, which are a deiffrent leage

Wouldn't say that at all dude.

Doesn't matter, age was brought into the discussion, and those V8's are much much older, and run much faster times.

I know, I was just saying that the Volvo and Audi engines are the same as you seemed to disagree.

I wasn't disagreeing, it was more of a question.

With regards to the FQ400, even though he's a tit, Clarkson prooved the perfect point.... You need to be revving the tit's off it to get it going. If you are in the wrong gear on the road in the 400, then even a Corsa could beat it.

But it's still a quick car on the road, the same as the Audi would be if it was kept in the right gear.

Thats only because the FQ400 has a stupidly shite turbo. I'm running nearly the same bhp and more torque from a more usable turbo - it's very quick on the road and should be quick on the 1/4 mile (got a manifold etc to be fitted and some other bits so should be up somewhere around 390bhp and a little more torque).

I'm running more torque than the 400, and it comes on boost a lot earlier. Wouldn't mind going head to head, fancy my chances TBH.
