does anyone know why i cant use my keyboard shortcuts?

i cant press any shortcuts and even simple keys like del. if i put a box round something i press delete nothing happens, i have to select eraser tool and rub it out, and i have to go edit>copy edit>paste etc etc and its annoying.

i was just wondering if it was something that i had pressed to disable them
