Sandpaper - Various grades
Filler - either metal or i think you can get away with P38 body filler
Primer
Spray paint
Laqueer (sp)
Thinners/ White spirit
Masking tape
Somewhere warm and dry to do it

As for doing it i would just sand them down till your happy. Clean all the surfaces with thinners and make sure there is no dust or dirt on them. When spraying repeat lots of thin layers rather than one think layer. sand down lightly between each layer.

use a wire brush drill attatchment to get crap off/sand etc.... much much quicker. Then sand with a medium grade paper.

When I did some, I;

washed them
sanded the crap off with coarse paper
worked down the grades to 200grit
primed with halfords wheel primer
left to dry
sanded with 400 grit
blew the dust off
painted with halfords rattle can (ford stratos silver)
sanded with 400 grit
painted again with same
sanded
lacquered with halfords lacquer
left it to dry, then t cut it

that was it, took ages and I don't have pics like Adam
