I went for a wee drive in Jades mini today, not too far due to the alternator belt snapping fiasco (thats fixed now) I must have went what 10 miles, pulled up to a junction ready to pull away & no power, the car hardly crawled out. So I pull over to take a look under the bonnet, everything looked ok, so got back in & decided to crawl the couple of miles home. Managed ok but very slow, sounding a bit like a tractor. I got up to the last set of lights & as I was sitting waiting on them changing & smoke started coming up from under the handbreak leaver , a fair bit of smoke, had to put the windows down etc to breath but couldnt stop there as it was a very busy junction so kept going, made it the next 2 turns home turned the ignition off, popped the bonnet & jumped out, & had a look, didnt seem out of sorts or excesivly hot!! Then I got down on my knees & looked underneeth at the cat which was glowing red hot & thats what the smoke was coming out of!!

Any ideas whats happened???

the cat will have prob collapsed, blocking the exhaust (drop in power) and build up of heat.

Well thats what im thinking, The car uses a bit of oil......smokes a little, do you think maybe this could cause the cat to choke up?? Ive even heard of them disintegrating before, falling apart inside. I had just been in the local retail park at the time, going over numerous speed bumps........it was right after that it went wrong!! I think i might try taking the exhaust off from cat back, just to see if its choked up.
