I got this terrible addiction on the Trader and I keep seeing some real bargains which if I had the cash I would buy...let the V5 hit the matt then sell it!!!
My brother bought a Saxo VTR two years ago for 2.5k under book value and it was mint with 12k miles on it and he could now sell it for the same price he bought it. I once saw this cliosport phase 2 with 33k miles up for 4.5k just due to the fact the owner was emigrating. Last week I saw a Clio DCi for 1500 under private selling value with low miles if I had the money I would of bought that.
Just think you got to think outside of the box and actually buy cars you may not even enjoy to make a quick buck.
But as many will say I am not exactly the most frugal person with my money.

Cars are generally cheaper in England, up here you pay more than book & theres never bargains like you mention. I'll give you my postcode if you like to check

Peugeot 406 Coupe 3.0 V6

Stumble'd Across these by accident, how cheap 
MG ZS 2001 2.5 way under 5k, theres loads of these MG ZS' on AT 2001-2004 all under 5k, bargains
Xsara VTS 2.0 16v, think of it as a bigger Saxo  only 4K

The honda will hold it's valve best but I think the Laguna is best buy. Depends what your after, perfomance, luxury, style???? Theres a good range above now.
