what are the pro's and cons of Protein supplements?

I understand that its used for muscle repair and growth but surely it cant be that simple and there must be side effects.

There should be no side effects from protein supplements themselves, its when you start to look at meal replacement that you may feel side effects of bloatedness.. Protein itself is used to resynthesise muscle growth and repair like you say.. To really gain any benefits from protein i.e. lean muscle mass and weight gain, you should ideally be consuming your bodyweight and more in grams of protein per day through a combination of food and supplements if you cant eat that much protein...

Cons - typical tub lasts about a month and can cost anythin from £20-£35 which can be alot to most people to be shelling out every month.

That feature on radio one was rubbish though, the guy they spoke to said he'd tried them and hadn't lost any weight or improved his figure. Absolutely no mention of anything like gym work alongside the supplements.

i reckon this subject has really taken off from around the beginning of 2006, but it has got big lately,

as for the protien question, it is true that you need to eat alot of it (2 grams for each kilo of your body weight) but there can be long term efdfects if you do it for too long, nackers up your digestive system, well it can do

as said before there is quite a bit of research that suggests that excess protein turns to carbs and fats, ie you are wasting your money if consuming excess. The tricky bit though is working out how much is excess!
