yeh mk4_astra i know, i've stopped using the smith machine to do benching at the moment, i just my bench at home for it. The gym have had people tell them they need a proper one and they are getting one installed soon so i'll wait till then. I actually prefer doing it not on the smith machine, find it easier on a normal bench.

yeh its funny though watching them do it, they are usually the people who just train biceps and chest lol

to be honest, the best way to do your chest i feel,is using dumbells, you have to drop the weight down because it works on your balance and technique as a whole, some people vary, im currently benching the 47.5k dumbells on each side, 3 sets of six, but on a bar i would be lifting more, so it shows how much harder it is!

I made a decision today to start using gloves :-( i've never used them really as i don't quite like how you can't grip the weights quite the same, but the callous's on my hand have got so bad now because of the heavy weights now! :/ or might just use them until the callous's go down to normal.

I like to use dumbells too, like you say works more on form and stability which works your core too, i tend to do dumb bell presses at the end of the week as they are lighter than my benching at the start of the week

are the callous's just below your fingers on the palm side? mine got really bad when i ditched my straps doing deadlifts and using heavy dumbells, i suggest a decent set of gloves then i still need to get some and that should stop me ipcking at my hands and chewing the skin

yep thats exactly where they are, and its got to the point where its slowing my work down (graphic designer) so its sore holding the mouse and typing.
I've got some golds gym ones with the padding where the callous's are so they should help
