Dean, was it a Vauxhall dealer who gave you a car?
And yeah, I could get it fitted elsewhere and it wouldn't void it, like you say, they're not going to know, BUT, I shouldn't need to be out of pocket, as I still have a full warranty (which appears to be about as valuable as a piece of wet mud)
Admittedly it was a single crash repair centre (not a chain etc) - so if they can provide courtesy cars for under 21's, I'm sure a big corporation like Vauxhall can.
Can you not request with Vauxhall that you have it fitted by a certified but non-Vauxhall mechanic and they pay the invoice?

I got a courtesy car when I was 19........not from Vaux but surely thats there problem & not yours. They have sold you a car & a warrenty agreement & cant honour it. They sound like a right bunch of fuckwitts tbh. Tell them to take the car back!!

Wouldn't have thought so TBH, I'd end up stumping up the £30 I paid for the linkage plus the whatever for labour.
I've got an appointment with them tomorrow, so I'll see what they come up with.

Worth a try I suppose.
I would do the linkage myself, but I don't want to fuck it up, and most of my tools have gone missing

have you tried W Grose in northampton?
i know its a bit further away but maybe you could chance you luck and see if they will recover it in for you?
They tend to stock way more stuff than york ward and i believe that if you can't get it recovered they do a collection deliver service where they will drop you back at home and pick you up to collect the car.
thats if it dosen't go well at york wards tomorrow!

Yeah, W Grose can't get the part either, I tried them earlier.
YWR have collected my car before, that's what's annoyed me most really.

Yeah!
Do you have paper proof of the fact the car was collected before. I.E invoice, car check before it was taken. If you have a look for a document number on the document . ring them up and quote that as proof that they did it before. If you say to them you want them to fit the supplied part for warranty then i can't really see the proplem myself.
Just proves how shit vauxhall are if they can't manufacture the part to keep with the damand!

so the fact that they did it last time is a bonus.
Just ask them for a quote to fit the gearlinkage if you supply it.
Get it done and paid for then send the bill to vauxhall with a snotty letter job done!
Ranting on a forum will achieve nothing you need to rant at vauxhall!

I'll see what they say tomorrow, if the part is in stock, I won't have to pay for it to be fitted, I'll just have the pain in the arse problem of getting home and then back in

5 miles isn't that far a walk, depending on how far you walk, that's only like 1 hours worth.
