2 people I know are running to raise money for the R.N.L.I.............been told they need to raise £1900 before they can take part Seems a bit harsh when they're running to raise money for a charity They're now frantically arranging raffles, dances etc to get the money together so they can take part. Anyone know anything about this?

I've had a look on the Marathon site but can't find anything confirming this

No idea, although maybe its due to the numbers that are applying to run the London marathon..............If you think about it theres probably 1000's of people wanting to run & they maybe cant let everyone run as it would take too long so this way they get people as committed to fund raising as they are at running & stop folk turning up with like a tenner raised for the fishermans trust wanting in? If they say £1900 minimum raised they will only get genuine committed people!

Hmmm.............. maybe, but its put some amount of pressure on them to get that kind of money up front before they can take part.

Anyone got any quick fundraising ideas?

They're both into keep fit in a big way, but not marathon running Dunno if there is, I only know the sketchy details atm. I've no idea how they became involved in the London Marathon, only know that RNLI have there own site for advice re the run so I'm pressuming because they already raised money for the RNLI, they maybe asked them to take part

Have they been balloted places or is it through the charity?? You might find if its through the charity they are the ones insisting on the £1900 as they only have limmited places & lots of people wanting them & are putting a lower limit of £1900 to guarentee a good fundrasing amount for themselves

Ermmm, not what charity & fund-raising is all about imo, sounds like Flora are doing their bit for all charities and capitalising. £1900 is a lot of money.
