Ahh, I need a little help here.
I found a macbook on eBay for £699 buy it now with a few days left. So I tried selling my iBook and in the end let it go for £575.
I emailed the seller about the macbook, she said she wouldnt accept paypal because of the rediculous fees (fair enough), but she would accept nochex.com, cash on collection, or a cheque. She lived too far away to collect, I don't have a nochex.com account, and cheque would take too long to clear so I offered her a bank transfer and she said that wasn't a problem and gave me her personal email through eBay and all her account details etc.
She had 170 positive feedbacks and a neutral one, had been a member for just under a year, and was still selling other items (perfume etc). All of this and the fact that the auction looked genuine made me buy the macbook and transfer the money on Friday Feb 2nd. I received an email on the following Monday (5th Feb) to say that she'd been to the bank and could confirm the money was in her account, and that she'd ship the macbook out via parcelforce 48 on Wednesday and I should receive it on the Friday. I had emailed her about 5 more times before Friday came but didn't hear anything from her. She was still constantly receiving positive feedback though.
Friday came, and the macbook didn't. I checked on eBay, and her feedback was now set to private - but she was still getting positive feedback for other things she'd sold, however she was not now selling anything else.
Yet more emails were sent threatening to take legal action unless she replied. On Sunday I filled an unreceived item dispute on eBay but that's useless because they can't do anything until 30 days after purchase, and 10 days after the dispute.
I've still heard nothing from her. I requested her contact details and the phone number doesn't work. She has now started receiving negative feedback from other users (but I can't view the comments because she's set to private).
This is the auction, nothing seems fishy about it what so ever:

I don't know what to do now, it still doesn't seem like a scam, but as if she's dead or something!
I'm so fucked, I sold my perfectly good laptop and gave all my money to someone who I can't get in contact with. I've college work to be doing and no computer to do it on!
Can anyone reccomend anything??
Sorry about the essay!

sounds like her account could of been hacked by someone else, but giving bank details is stupid as can be easily traced by the police.
I would contact your bank, and also their bank and inform them its being used for fraud. Would also contact the police and inform them of their details, etc.

Shes had 5 bad feedbacks in pretty quick succession by the looks of it? Looks a bit dodgy to me tbh.

My point exactly, it seems like she's just died an none of her buyers were receiving their items.
Unfortunately I did what could have been the most stupidest thing, and just paid the cash into her account because the bank said it would have been quicker. They said they'd add a note or something with it so I could prove that it was me that put it in there.. but arghh..!

you have her account number, name and sort code so just go the police station and give those details, easily sorted.

You should have got the full name and address of the user if you select the pay via cheque option.

I didn't select pay by cheque though, so no address known. Indeed Tim, the joys.

I will do so tomorrow after college, I can't get anywhere until then. Having to use college computers for everything and they're so slow and buggy!
Another problem I'm left with now though is that I really need a laptop for college work. Do you think I should try and source some money and buy another laptop because even if this is going to get sorted out it's not going to be quick is it? And the majority of the time I can't even get online to find out what's happening!

oh god very dodgy!
a guy where i work had his ebay account hacked and they listed shit laods of golf clubs etc etc at like £400 a time... he saw it and closed the account.
the fact that it has gone private says to me it's possibly been hacked, but all the detaisl and shit don't add up.. obviously the phone number is fake, but othr details ahh just too confusing tbh
try the police, but they are usually crap!
get in touch with ebay and the bank as soon as possible!
also try posting on ebays message boards: http://pages.ebay.co.uk/community/chat/index.html
many people have good knowledge of ebay on there and may have come across this before.
good luck, you should get money back though
