Yeah ur right. The way to do it is next time ur there have a look around the gym for someone who is your type of age and looks like they know what thier doing.

Then just get talking to them and ask if they want to train. I was lucky enough to find a training partner who was a personal trainer out of work

Funny you say that.

I was rooting through my mates computer last weekend and i found his brother music folder. There was a sub folder inside called "Gym Music". Guess what was in there?!! Eye of the tiger! I couldn't help but laugh.

I train better by myself now; set yourself goals and aim to achieve them - then the next time hit it harder and break the goal!

I'm upto 1hr30 at 175watts on the bikes, which is what I want; next is to pick up on the treadmill and swimming!

My boss competes in Triathalons and Iron Man and I want to do one sometime in the next couple of years

I prefer to train by myself, that way you dont get let down by training partners. Still a pain though when training things like chest, because i still need 2 people with me. My gyms dumbells go upto 70kg, and although i can press them, there's no way im going to be able to throw both up by myself its even a pain finding 2 people able to place a 70kg in each hand and then take them from me when im finished - a mini workout in itself. Motivation is easy for me, once you start growing and seeing progress there's no looking back. I just see the skinny people in the gym who train for years and still look the same.

i got to 28kg dumbells on each side after a good few months,(sounds well measely compared to 70kg!) my diet as allways been a weak spot and i go alone so getting 28kg each side used to be a task and i often found i couldn't do the first one, although i could do 6 if i did get the first one up?! Do you reckon that was more psychological than anything?

When dumbell pressing, getting the weight up for the first rep is always hardest. I bet you'd find you could lift more if you had a person each side handing the weight to you. Struggling to toss the weight up is just going to lead to injury. The most i can throw up by myself is 50kg a side, anymore than that and i'd probably damage my shoulder or i'd fall of the bench in a spasticated heap.

Yeah thats why i'd kind of get stuck in one position! was always aware so didn't "throw them up" found it odd though as the range of motion on the first (to the point i would get it to) would be higher than the level i would lower to on the reps. always puzzled me that one! Remember with me only on 28 less likely to rip shoulder out etc!
