for a company liek wetherspoons tho, it would look VERY bad on their reputation if they come across as discrimating against disabled people.....as a vast majority of people will jump on the band wagon and believe it

this is whats bugging us, had we continued to serve him, and police had done a random check (as they do most days), we could have gone to court and lost our licence for serving someone intoxicated....we cant fooking win

if it did go to court, could you not ask a couple of your disabled regulars to stand up as character witnesses (if thats the word im looking for) and get them to tell the court how well they are treated etc and not discriminated against due to their disability? (i have no knowlege of any law type stuff, so im just taking stabs in the dark here)

were any of the customers in the pub at the time regulars? they might be handy even if they're not wheelchair bound.

I think that if you have enough witnesses saying that he wasn't verbally abused, they will throw it out of court.

ITs true Lynny, can't win, same in the off-trade, always trying to pin underage drinking on us selling it to underage, rather than prosocuting youths trying to get served you arnt old enough and actively putting parents and 18+ people off buying it for them, as long as there is someone to blame they are happy.
Its shit and the dirty fucking scum chavs will probably end up with a big payout, if so you should counter sue them with some equally as bullshit like its put you off working after the trauma etc.

Well the running joke now is that by law, we can use reasonable force to remove a threatening person from our premises....in his case it would mearly mean pushing him out the building

That's the way it is these days though companies won't back their staff up for fear of the bad publicity. It just crates a culture where people know if they shout loud enough they will normally get what they want.

I know it sounds harsh but you really cant win with some disabled people. Ive worked at many venues on the door when disableds have been in. On a number of occassions ive done things like let them jump the que, opened doors for them etc and everytime they've given me a dirty look or said something like they can do it themselves. Only trying to be helpful. I even got told off by one disabled by pressing the call button on the diabled lift for him

Put him at the top of a flight of stairs and tell him to think about what a dick he is, when he apologises you can either help him back down or push him off.

unfortunanlty Ash, I can see that plan landing me in jail, rather than getting the company out of trouble
