IMO they should not go to jail or anything, it wasnt there fault, ive just watched the vid and they asked so many times for confirmation. They spotted the orange frendly pannels and the control operations said that they were not frendlys, if its anyone fault its intel!
I hope they dont go down for it
Dont get me wrong im not siding with the yanks but the pilots cant be held responcible for that

I must agree with you actually. Especially when they hear that they've hit & killed the wrong target, you can tell they are truely shocked & horrified with their own actions.
A massive shame for all concerned.

i watched that on sky news this morning, they played it about 4 times in an hour and it made me sick knowing that americans killed a british soldier on their side..
are they blind or something? thinking that orange panels are rockets WTF!
apparently they changed their radio frequency so the british couldn't get through to the pilots.
and yeah the pilot said he was going to be sick after they knew what they did. but still. they shouldv'e made sure using their own eyes that they were friendlies.
shouldn't go to jail no. but this should be a lesson for everyone. that was someone's son they killed. possibly someone's dad too. imagine how you'd feel.

From what is in the video it doesn't seem to be the pilots fault at all.
They confirmed and reconfirmed and confirmed again.

How would I feel if my son/dad had been killed? probably sad that they were there in the 1st place! But that's not what this discussion is really about

no need to call me a twat is there. funny how everytime someone states an opinion on this forum that others dont liek they get called things..
anyway im just saying if they saw orange panels on the roofs of the trucks then they should have aborted even if intelligence had said they could go ahead with the mission.
also, the guy dived a long wa and could easily had seen the orange panels before opening fire. fair enough he was probably scared it couldv'e been the enemy and they couldv'e fired back but still. if everyone was co-ordinating with eachother this shouldn't happen.

They're not allowed, they have to follow orders. That's what happens in the Army/Airforce/Navy.

such a terrible shame, its not the pilots fault, they should have seen that people wouldnt put fricking orange rockets on the vehicles. the big problem is mis-identifying them as flat bed trucks. they told intel what they saw, and asked if this sounded right. this was their mistake.
also the brits were in a no shoot zone anyway.
its a lot of peoples fault, not the pilots, unfortunately this happens in war. and we shouldnt look for a scape goat

The orange panel thing is stupid anyway. ANYONE could do it and then be identified as 'friendly'

It was the Americans fault because they are American.

It was only Americans coordinating. They didn't confirm before firing and the pilot said it 'looks like'....he fired and killed. He was in doubt, shouldn't have done it. He should have waited for confirmation, just after that it was confirmed about the presence of the friendlies.
Anyway, who can authenticate this video tape? And why did it take so long to be made public?
