i knew it had illegal sidelights on the front, no speedo, no openable windows and a dodgy wheel bearing.

yet what did it fail on? a bloody split pin missing out of a ball joint.

why didnt he just fit it for me or say fit it when u go bk. all the favours i do for these people have to stop!!

If they are caught doing anything to your car then they lose their license.

Same happened in my garage with my car. brake pipe clip missing. Failed on that!

speedo and windows inop dont come into mot, wheel bearing can only fail throught detectable roushness or play wen turning the wheels, repairs cannot be carried out during the test. as for the sidelights that down to the tester

eh? so if they find something wrong, something small they have to fail it and cant fix it then pass it?

does that mean say if it fails on a numberplate bulb, then they fail it, do you have to pay for a retest?

I thought they'd phone you and tell you the car was gonna fail on a Split Pin. I know i'd be mightily pissed off if that happened to me.

It's ok. My car failed on everything this year

if its something minor, like a sidelight bulb or numberplate bulb, they can pass it on an advisory.

major (suspension related) which the balljoin falls under, then it will have to be failed...

and afaik, retests are free if carried out at the same testing station if any repairs are carried out there within a set period of time (8 or 10 days i think)

there is a thing called prs (pass and repair at staion) which allows small items to be replaced after the test, ie bulbs and stuff. most other things thoug have to have a retest which can vary if the vehicle stays at the garage or go's away

There was a guy up here that was really good for MOT testing.. To test the brakes he would go bombing off in the car and slam them on; If it stopped, then the brakes were OK

He got busted tho, did about twice the MOT's he was meant to do, and he didnt have the right testing equipment. Hes lost his license untill he gets the right equipment lol.

that rule makes me laugh

your not allowed any 'obstruction' to voer more than 4cm2 or something on the windscreen, so how does it pass with a tax disc there??

there is no exception to the rule as far as the testing guidelines go... so the tax disc SHOULD fail it!

On the talk of Tax Disc's. do they have to be in the bottom left corner? Or just anywhere on the windscreen?
