Hi all

Im posting this on behalf of a mate as i cannot advise him - if he wants to scrap his car and has ALL the legal documentation what is the usual procedure if he wants to scrap it to a scrapyard for example as in documents and informing DVLA, etc

The V5 form has instructions on how to scrap a car. The DVLA will need to know its no longer on the road.

Was it written off?

Tell insurance about it being written off
cancel the policy
tell dvla it will no longer be on the road
scrap it and send the V5 off (I'm not sure how this is done, either you or the scrapyard deal with this).

Don't tell the insurance company it was written off, as they put a big fat red mark against your name, even though you haven't claimed. Just say you've sold the car and no longer require insurance.
