Need some advice my sis, is buying new car its a Cat D doesnt have log book etc all repaired etc..... was just cosmetic damage wing bumper n cracked windscreen repaired by main dealer! 
 
okay guy who is selling it has doesnt have log book etc what checks do i need to do etc....... any advice would be great!

get it HPI'd 1st and formost and get the AA to come out and give it a once over. why doesnt he have the log book??

my car i bought is cat d, usually its fine as they can write a car off even as low as 60% of the cars market value. 
 
The only thing you will need to do is tell your insurance as they might not cover you if they dont know about it. 
 
They will need to see a copy of the engineers report when it was fixed, if you dont have this you can take it to any mot place and get them to print something off to say it checks out fine.

@hitman2k, the car need to check by the DVLA first to check idenity etc...You normally get a certificate for the inspection and then you can reapply for the logbook in your name and then tax vehicle.  
 
Your insurance might also need an approved engineer's report to state that the car has been repaired to the required standards

im thinking about buying my friends car as far as i know its a cat D it was mot'd about 2-3 months ago if i bought it would that mean that the MOT is invalid?

they dont need a vic check or anything,  
 
i spotted a t-reg corsa sport 1.6 for £700 cat-d

i know a case where insruance was looking for both...vic check and engineer's report
