PIN NUMBER REVERSAL (GOOD TO KNOW)

If you should ever be forced by a robber to withdraw money from an ATM machine, you can notify the police by entering your Pin # in reverse.

For example if your pin number is 1234 then you would put in 4321. The ATM recognizes that your pin number is backwards from the ATM card you placed in the machine.

The machine will still give you the money you requested, but unknown to the robber, the police will be immediately dispatched to help you.

This information was recently broadcasted on TV and it states that it is seldom used because people don't know it exists.

Please pass this along to everyone possible.

did someone once tell you that 20'z bigbadboy bodykitz and snorting smoke holes were all the fashion too?

News: Ignore PIN warnings

A rumour about PIN number reversals being the way to avoid thefts at ATMs is a hoax. (08/12/06)

Several colleagues have received chain emails advising that they should enter their PIN number in reverse if a thief ever forced them to withdraw money from an ATM .

This tactic would supposedly release the cash but then immediately alert the police who would be dispatched to the scene. This is untrue.

"There have been a number of these claims about reverse PIN functionality," says Alison Little from ATM channel planning.

"We don't know where these bogus emails originated but urge colleagues to ignore them."

I work for Halifax, this was what we got told.
