It's illegal unless they are white at the front, orange at the sides and red at the back.

I cant see that being legal, considering its illegal to drive around with your fog lights on unless its really foggy.

i believe they are illegal to be switched on whilst you are on a public road. although i have heard the red/white/orange thing before

i allways thought it was illegal to have neons turned on whilst the car is in motion, but when the car was parked up u can have them on. some ppl have said u can drive round with them on as long as they are fitted properly and the tubes are not visible, just the light emited fom them. i doubt it but not entirely sure lol...

In theory, they are legal providing that you follow these rules.
You MUST NOT be able to see the actual tubes. As long as all you can see is the GLOW then in theory they are not causing a problem. Of couse we recommend that if you have them fitted you have a switch to turn them on and off.
They must not cause a distraction to yourself or other road users. To be honest if they're turned on it could be said that you're distracting other drivers, it all depends on who is dealing with the matter.
If you are stopped by the police, be courteous and polite. If you are asked to switch off the neons we suggest that you do so or they could issue you with an order to remove them.
I have dealt with aftermarket lights on vehicles before in the motorbike business. The law says they are legal if clear at the front, or amber at the front sides, only amber on the sides and only red on the rear.
This is because that is what drivers are used to seeing on the road and helps them to know how and where a car is on the road.

but is that the tubes or the lights, You see I was orginally told they are illegal as they can be distracting to other drivers, just don't fancy calling the cops to find out, or ignoring it and getting fined. lol

If you're not sure, find out where your local traffic police are based, and go see them. If you're polite and explain that you wanted to know if having them on the car is ok, I imagine they'd be happy to help.

They are Illegal, as it says on the box "For Off Road Use Only"
Fit them by all means, just better not to have them on on the road, i had some on mine, if you have them on whilst driving, you just get paranoid.
As my dad says for everytime i get pulled by the police "Dont give them bullets to fire"
