As many of you have dropped a new or different capacity engine in you cars, i was wondering a few things for when the time comes to do it with my car. Basically, how do you go about registering it on the V5 that the engine has been changed? Are there any costs envolved with registration etc? 99% these corsas etc you see on ebay are still registered as still having the previous engine still in them. Im just a little confused about why they are hardly ever changed on the log book.

There's a section on the V5, you fill in the new capacity, new engine number, and send it to the DVLA in Swansea.
No charge.

Oh, and the people who don't do it are trying to cheat the DVLA and their insurer, so they pay less tax and insurance, even though it's illegal.

they never change the log book so they can fraud the insurance companies pretending its still a 1.2 and get cheaper tax basically
its fuckin stupid and people that do this dont deserve to drive a fuckin converted car on the road.
in my opinion of course

i agree with muppet sport, people who drive these cars and not declare the chnages with the dvla shouldnt be able to drive on public roads, they are basically driving round with no insurance and pushing all the honest drivers premiums up

Thanks I agree with you there, if i go ahead with doing an engine conversion i want to declare it, wouldnt dream of driving it undeclared, might as well drive with no insurance! Do you have to send the documents from the car the engine came out of? i heard you have to send that too so the engine number can be changed or something like that??

i think its not so much people do it that annoys me, its people on ebay advertise it as a selling point promoting the idea. that annoys me more

i know what you mean, personnally, i wouldnt buy one if its not been declared. Premiums are high enough as it is now, the worst thing ever when an uninsured dick crashes into :@
