The pad indicator wire had snapped clean through
Now i find this strange as how it happened was i pulled up on my drive one night and it was fine, got up the next morning and it came on straightaway as soon as i turned the ignition. So it would seem its snapped on its own overnight.
Only thing I can think of is maybe a cat got under the car and thought it was something to play with and bit through it?

or you raced and beat a ferari and the owner sneaked round in the middle of the night thinking he'd teach that spotty faced loner of a seat driver a lesson and cut the wrong thing, meant to get the brake pipe?

Maybe the wires inside came apart, and cut through the rubber outer casing?
More likely than a kitty playing with it?
