I'm going to Southampton to look at a car tomorrow on behalf of my mum, I dont know when she will be available to look at it but I can't put down a deposit without her looking at it.

If it's mint obviously I will get her to get down to soton ASAP but is there any way I could offer say £50 - £100 to hold it for a day or 2?

Depends on how much the car is worth really. Had to give Fiat a grand for my car, but then that was £11k...

£6000 - so im guessing the normal deposit will be £600 but i really cant put that down without her seeing it.

Drove 2 hours in the pissing rain friday night only to find out the car had sold between us leaving the house and getting there.

I put a 200 deposit on my nova which was 1300, and 300 on my c, which was 5k.

if you really want it, definitely put a deposit down.

it's only a gesture, to show you're intrested, so its not a massive problem how much it is...

Well, that depends on the dealer. Most car dealers are actualy twats so the answer is probably yes.

not strictly true. iirc, you are actually entitled to your deposit back, EVEN IF it says 'non refundable'

Yes because im closer to southampton at uni so i could pop over there easily to check it out first to make sure its not a complete shitbox, then she can come down from home to test drive it
