Going to look at a car this afternoon.
It's up for £5990, how much do you think I should try and haggle them down to?

start at £5000 - and meet a 1/3 of the way
£5250 -£5500
If they won't budge much on price get the to fill the tank, fit mats/valet/12 months tax/better warranty etc etc
make the difference up in fringe benefits

Should get that for 6k mate
Depends how much of ablagger you are with Haggling I normally can only blag a little bit off and some fuel and that. I have mates that can get them for hundreds less!
Should pay 5.5, I'd have thought. Unless you blag some things like Tax, MOT, Service, Fuel etc etc

Would hope so as its up at £5990
Seriously though, just bid low. If you want to pay £5000 for it offer them 5k, they might need to get shut of it. If its a trader then its highly doubtful they will knock that much off though, You'll probably pay about 5,700 for it if your good at haggling. but if you offer low they can only say no and go up again, bid too high and you might blow it.

why's that? if he takes finance from the garage they'll probably make a little bit of commission from the finance house.
Why do people have this misconception about the word 'cash'.
Trade descriptions act 1974 i think it is, actually makes it illegal for a company to stipulate a difference in price dependant on how the amount is being paid.
I someone offered me basically a grand less than the asking price on a car, I'd thank them for coming and remind them the car is £5990, if theres nothing to p/x they can have it for £5800 otherwise we're wasting each others time.
Ask the price no p/x, and then when you start pushing for mats, tank of fuel, better warranty, 12 months tax etc. you've just taken another £400 odd quid out of the car for them at least, why'd they do that when they've already offered you the deal? Unless, as someone said, they'fe desperate to get rid of it, i.e. the car's a pig!
