Well I've trashed the C20XE I put in my Corsa already.........infact it was the first time I drove it with the XE fitted!!

I bled my brake system on sunday and adjusted the handbrake, the last 2 jobs on my list before I could take it for a spin. As you can imagine I was pretty excited but I decided to wait until early evening before I went out.

I drove over to the local "cruise" in convoy with my brother in his Starlet GT and we had a little play on the way over...I was happy as I managed to pretty much stick with him (his car is rapid as it's about 150bhp and weighs under under 800kg!)

Anyway, get over there with no problems and straight away a good friend of mine asks if I'll take him for a quick drive so in he jumps and off we go. I went up a small straight and dabbed the accelerator in 2nd, everyone starts looking at my car and I hear someone say "That's got a redtop in it for sure"

So, I'm feeling pretty good and excited to be driving my own car again after 6months of driving my dad's Astra diesel. I turn round and head back down the same straight piece of road, plant it in first and get to 5k before all the power dies and a huge flame comes out both sides of my exhaust! Roll to a stop with everyone cheering and shouting (I had to laugh or I would have cried!) I knew straight away that it was something serious and I was going home on a low loader!

Open bonnet and take the timing belt cover off expecting to see a snapped belt or broken tensioner but it all looked fine

Then I got under the car and checked the bottom pulley, only to find the big bolt than secures the bottom pulley to the crank is so loose I can unscrew it with my fingers!

I don't know what damage this would have caused but the timing was completely out so I'm assuming the worst, bent valves and possibly cracks/holes in pistons.

Look out for my next thread, will more than likely be entitiled:

"Modified Corsa C20XE breaking"

I've had the car 3 1/2 years and I'll be sad to see it go but tbh it's no longer to my tastes anyway, I want a standard looking Corsa GSI in smoke grey which I'll XE and fit the suspension and V6 brakes from my current Corsa.

Sorry for the long post but some/most of you will understand how I'm feeling!

Onwards and upwards I guess!

Took me 2 months to complete the C20XE conversion but I work 6 days a week so I only worked on it on sundays and it was the first conversion I've ever done. I was very happy with the results, everything worked as it should until that damn bolt came undone!

That would be my "friend" who is a "mechanic"

He helped me do the timing as I wasn't confident enough to do it myself, done it a couple of times now though and won't be letting him do it again!!

Probably cost me around £600 including the engine! Not bad really! I got my conversion kit from rallyman (Chris Astley) and I highly recommend his products!

I believe the old bolt was re-used. I've got a spare redtop so I'm going to take the head off the broken one and if there's no piston damage I'll put the spare head on, if it works I'll keep it, if not it's being broken for parts.
