my old corsa....you should try a 3inch exhaust system with a 1100rpm idle that spits and coughs all the time has a green front bumper a missing wheel arch and a scoobykillers.com sticker in the back window. every road user thought i was a wanker. every stupid gimp in a saxo or fiesta tried to race me. wankers.

Yes, I used to get embarrased when people pigeon holed me with bodykitted car owners with drum and bass on full volume.

It was worth it though.

I know what some of you must mean - if I ever modified my car it'd be really subtle but worth the mods etc. That's why I love my standard GLS. I like washing it and keeping it looking immaculate and original - back to black the plastics everytime etc. I must admit I wouldn't get embarassed in bjoe6886's old silver Corsa, the nicest one I've seen and even the other half likes it and she normally laughs at every modified car.

Thoughs that want a nice looking car but the stripped out feel, try an M3 CS, not CSL, just CS haha <--- there I go talking about BM's again.

I don't normally get embarrased. Only time I do is coming out of work. I work in a office full of people/women that aren't interested in cars. Watching my Corsa scraping ovr speedbumps is entertainment for them!

I usually press Mute or Pause when i'm at lights so i don't get attention. A lot of people try to race me all the time though. I can't win though

Depends on what you've done to it, bar the rear lights on mine it looks like improved factory spec IMO, so provided I keep the revs down it's fine. Haven't been called a chav etc, no ones said I have a shit car etc.

Think the fact I try to keep it clean and drive responsibly (maybe having a private plate too shows I'm not some cheap GRP mod lover) helps too.

Touchwood, coppers just glance at me occasionally but nothing more, think that says something.

If you mean stuff like Irmscher and Reiger for Vaux, then i agree.

I think more people are going off the ott look now, and sticking to subtle kits, or if not just standard, i used to love the big daft fibreglass kits when i were about 10, i hate them with a passion now.

I wouldnt be embarased, but like you say, i wouldnt turn up to a job interview in a well ott car.

Original manufacturer affiliates are the best to modify with imo (if that is what you call them) i.e. Irmscher, ACS, Alpina, Brabus, M-tech & AMG etc

To be fair this whole "chav" thing goes a bit too far.

How does spending 10k on a car make you a chav? I doubt anyone of lower class would ever beable to afford to do this?

I have a good job for my age, why can't i spend my money on my interests?

IMO i see it as a hobby that has been tarnished by generalization, the people who will be laughing at you will just be sheep who's brain is easily steered by common fads.

I agree, do it if it's your hobby - most people that do do it for their hobby don't drive like idiots either. I think most people (around here anyway) can see the difference between chav-mobiles and properly modified cars.

my old corsa in its final days looked more chav than anything, yet underneath it all, it was a proper modified car

Well said mate! Im never embarrassed when i drive my corsa around despite the fact that many people may assciociate it with a "chav" car as it has blingy chrome wheels. It has a subtle kit and IMO the wheels compliment the colour well, hence the reason i picked them.

Doing my corsa up was/is a hobby (an expensive one mind you) and the car looks EXACTLY as i wanted it to look so why would i be embarrassed about driving it?

I get looks from people at work when i turn up in my corsa but tbh i couldnt give a sh*t what people think, its my car and if i like it then thats all that matters.

Theres a manager at work with an apappernt 400bhp scoob and he said he can apriciate my car as me only being 19 and we all have to start somewhere. He said to me once something along the lines of 'You've spent money well on your car looks very tidy'.

But as for the topic of this thread no im not embarased about my car at all

My original plans for my Corsa were pretty 'Chavvy' but this site has taught me a hell of a lot in a very short time. I'm looking forward to upping pics of my SRi when she's been sprayed, should look tasteful and not the 'Max Power' showcase I had in mind when I first joined the site.

PI shocks and springs (40mm drop, my driveway is a 'mare) - £150
Angel Eye headlights - £129
Titanium Lexus rear lights (maybe the 3Ds, not sure yet) - £30
Wide arch bodykit - £250
Boot smooth panel - £37
Clear Chrome 3D side repeaters - £10
Micro Chrome beesting - £10
DTM mirrors - £30
Alloys (undecided but deffo 15" 5 spoke, maybe in white)
Respray in black - £200 (provided I prime/sand it beforehand)

Shocking! It's now a C16SE conversion (preventative measures against having to work on a really old engine), Vectra 15" alloys (will be white), post 97 front bumper, debadged grill, semi-smoothed hatch, GSi style colourcoding (exterior plastics)....proposed drop of 35-40mm, smoked side repeaters, depo headlights

Yes, I would have been embarrassed, I'm now just looking forward to getting her back to show her off

EDIT: Standard rear lights and original SRi badges without the rubstrips.

Spot on, they are the only aftermarket body parts i'd fit.

I used to have a loud stereo, but never a bodykit. Once you get to a good age for insurance you find yourself wanting speed. As soon as I turned 22 I got my Cupra as it serves both pruposes, its quick, and looks good standard. Now i'm more interested in performace mods. Remap and 200+ BHP for £450, or wheels for the same price? Remap all day long.
