Think it takes a bit longer than 5 months to get ready for a marathon? Most people train for a year or more?

Probably better off doing a half marathon first, to see how you get on.
I'm hoping to do the Great North Run next year, followed by the London Marathon the following year.

you can be fit enough to run it obviouslly not fit enough to run it fast, however, it will take an awfull lot of work.
a very strict diet and training regime and no alchol would greatly benifit you, ask your self, do you have the dedication to do it lol.
If the answer is yes find your self a running/marathon forum and ask for a decent training regime, as just doing cardio every day wont be that benificial although it will obviously get you fit you need a specific training plan desinged for marathon runners.

mate, it can be done.
I was fairlry fit initially when i went for marine officer selection but gave myself 6 months to get majorly fit. By 4 months i was running 10 miles every 3 days comfortably, twice did a 23 mile jog with a mate.
I have a link to the cd bought which helped me every step, pm me if you want it mate, it was only about £7 off the net, well worth it......it works because i passed the selection lol
