The mechanics at the garage are generally no better than at an independant place. Yet because they work for a franchise which allows them to wear Vauxhall overals people think it's alright to pay twice as much. Makes no sense, the sooner people use there heads the better really.

today i had a vectra (i work at a main dealer) did handbrake cables ,idle mod, removed all the exhaust, and removed the front heat shields and replaced the exhaust cat back, full service, front road springs two front tyres and a bit mora and came to nearly 1700 quid the bill, the guy authorised it all aswell and knew the costs, best bit was its a 96 2ltr ls model with over 100k on the clock and half the paint has faded to pink!
y bother would have been about 700 quid at any other place

We've had this discussion before and there were reasons a franchised dealer charged more.

i disagree. we have seen massive increase in labour sale in last 8 quarters, with figures to match.

and we have so much work coming from these backstreet garages that are supposedly upto the same standards as dealers

the debate can go on forever-bottom line is that if all vauxhall dealers were overpriced and crap at their jobs, then i for one wouldnt be in a job. if we were so crap then people would not come to us.

i once went to a pub owned by Brewsters-and the lager was flatter than a witches tit. doesnt mean that i will slag off every brewsters in the country. but when it comes to a vauxhall garage making a mistake, EVERY dealer in the country is slagged off everyone moans etc.

as for prices etc for fuel tanks-ur using older vehicles where parts aren't readily available direct from vauxhall. yeh they may be silly money doesnt mean any1 is obliged to buy from them.

Find the last thread about this.

Imo it showed that franchised garages charged for a reason and overall you were getting better servcice, although I am well aware that because it's franchised doesn't mean you can't have bad experiences.

people think because its the name that the work carried out will be secure and to a high standard, which unfortunately as many people know is not the case and local garages can perform just a good as job and they will generally do good work as alot of their business comes from reputation.
