my mate keeps tellin me to sell my phone to a shop and say i lost it and get it replaced for free cus its on contract whats this about? does this actually work and can u get caught?

It only works if you have insurance for losing your phone.
Yes you can get caught.

Plus they block the phone when you report it missing and chances are if the shop has your details which they shouold when selling it, they will know what you have done when the person who buys it brings it backed locked

It'll be traced back to you & you'll probably be prosecuted

All they need is CCTV of you entering/being in the shop & that would be enough evidence to say you didn't lose it

plus if u say you "lost" it the old one as a mtter of precaution will be blacklisted immedietely and of no use to you so the whole exersise is pointless.

Your a fucking tool for even considering it. Infact i hope you do it and get caught

why faff about with a mobile phone for a few quid? Why not sell your car to a garage then ring up your insurance company and tell them it was stolen and you'll get a new one - you think?

It will be blacklisted straight away and made useless without changing the Imei number which is also illegal.
