Found out last week that the company I work for on a 1 year FTC are offshoring loads of it to India! I've only been with the company for 3 fcuking weeks Gotta wait till end of the month to see if I will still have a job!

Loads of contractors at work rave about how its the ways forward, so I may look in to it.

Do many people do it and how stable is it? Only reason I ask is I have a a mortgage to cover each month!

Yeh Im on a contract at the moment.

You need a lot of experience in a particular field.

Qualifications mean shit in contracting, you need experience.

And it's only stable if you are good enough to get offered contracts, or extensions to current contracts.

If you struggle to get your first contract, that means you will struggle to get your second and third etc therefore not being stable.

Alex tell me how much experience you have in technologies that you would like to work with and I will tell you if I think you will be able to get a contract easily or not.

Not in my expieriance they dont, if a company needs to make price cuts there not gonna get rid of perms (having to pay them off) and then bring in more expensive contractores.

Ok you shouldnt have any trouble getting a contract, you will also have more chance getting a longer term contract because developers like myself only really get bought in for projects that are a few months long.

Have a look on http://www.jobserve.com
