(Not sure if this GC or offday, so move if required).

Im kinda looking for some advice about what to do regarding a car. For years now i've always had a thing for the Nissan 200SX S14a, in alot of respects its my 'realistic' dream car to own one day. I did want to buy one as my first car, however group 18 insurance at 20 with 0 ncb was just too painful to think about, hence why i ended up with a Corsa (1.4 8v LS). The other problem is finding a good S14a to buy. Most are autos (no thanks) or manuals with insane milage higher than my 1994 corsa has.

I have come across a good manual S14a that has low milage now however, in good condition and all. I have to the money to by said car and with a years no claims at 21 insurance is just about payable (£2500 ish). However, the morale dilemma is this. To buy said car will use nearly all of my cash out of my savings account. Then i'd need to wait untill i get said year of no claims which is 5 months away yet. So if i buy the car now i use all my money and i wont be able to drive it for 5 months anyway, but finding an S14a with 23k milage is rare, plus its about 250 miles away and i wont be able to drive it back.

So to sum up. Buying the car uses all of my cash, i cant drive it for 5 months, i need to get someone else to drive it the 250 miles from where it is (as i cant for insurance reasons) and i need to find somewhere to store it for those 5 months and insurance once i drive it will make me pretty poor. However, its basicly my dream car and finding them with this milage is very rare.

Should i buy it?

Normally have to be 25 for this. The best i found was norwich union, where can you drive anything group 1-17 at 21 on day insurance, but you need to be 25 for group 18-20 .

Personally I wouldnt buy it.

Your 21 so going to be wanting your own place in the near future (if you dont already) and spending stupid amount on insurance just wouldnt be worth it.

I'd wait until I was 25ish, more financially stable, in my own place and can get cheaper insurance.

But if you've money to burn then why not.

Well, i dont have my 'own' place so to speak, but i dont live at home with the 'rents anymore either, moved out last month . My plan was always to wait, but i dont want to end up with something with about 150,000 miles on it in a few years time.

That car you'll have bought will be worth how much less by the time you can use it?

I bought my Impreza for £12250 3 and a half years ago. I had 16.5k in the bank at the time which left a fair bit over after insurance. Depends how much money you will have left afterwards I suppose. Looking back I could of bought a house with that money, I'm not in that situation anymore...

It's only a car. There will always be more.
