Never been a fan of charging engines that weren't meant for it. The engine bay always looks a mess. I'm yet to see a conversion thats neat and not filled with pipes.

Not always the case, have you seen the Veedub boys makig a mess of their supercharged VR6's? Exactly tidy as fook most of the time.

Its only messy and unreliable was the people who work on it. If you dont change the bottom end internals then your asking for it

In this case standard rods and pistons is asking for trouble

Point taken, I've never seen a tidy 1.4/1.6 one though!

Theres two quite tidy ones in that Migweb thread but in all honesty even the manufacturers dont get it right...5 Turbo anyone?

Also after looking into an Imprezza and Pulsar engine bay they were far from tidy

I personally think he is gonna struggle! Using standard internals with the supercharger will be ok if he is keeping the boost low (5-6psi) but that isnt going to net him the 70-90bhp he is looking for!

I just dont think its possible on a grand! The only way he could do it is to find a LET and do the swap himself!

I like his approach in sticking with the original engine, but if your gonna do something like this you have got to do it right, which ultimately means lots of cash and unreliability!

yes Jamie, its pretty much all identical stuff because Daewoo is owned by GM. they use the small capacity family1 engines just like Vauxhall/Opel/Holden etc

wont get close to 150 bhp, let alone 200.

costs are underestimated as mapping it will be £400 to be done properly. then theres a loom, management, inlet, charger....... but is a great project.

Think people have missed the point here. It appaears to be a bloke who's got lots of bits sitting about, and fancies trying something, just to see "what if". No-where have i read that he wants it to be reliable, or he expects it to last. It's merely a test to see what power you can squeeze from the engine on a budget, ignoring reliability issues.

Basically if you can get good gains from it with a grand worth of bits, it'll be worth while others spending another £1k on strengthening the internals!
