What are the margins for error on these mobile speed camera vans?
Was heading home this morning and came round a corner at approx 32mph (in a 30 limit) saw the van and proceeded to slow to 30, cant seem to find what the margin for error is on these?
Any help greatly appreciated

although the laser guns themselves arent that accurate, in court one person picked one up fr the evidence table pointed it at the wall and it read 7mph
needless to say they wer let off after that

You can be prosecuted for 31 if they want to.
The widely recognised margin is 10% + 2mph, but this is a guideline in order to ensure that convictions are safe and that they don't work too hard.

if i got done for 31 in a 30 id be to the papers
if they want to be so petty and technical about speeding then fine, but they need to adjust the punishment to suit, ie me doing 1 mph over the limit and i get the same punishment for someone doing upto 15mph over the limit? would a robber get the same sentence for a murderer?

The offences do carry a sliding scale, but its not granular enough to be fair in all cases.
If an SP30 goes to court, its 3-6 points, but the fine will always be £60, plus costs.

I bet 32 indicated would be more like 30 anyway! I really wouldnt worry about it anyway i dont believe they'd do anything for 2mph over the limit!

Also, speedos are set a few mph under.

I thought this as well, the speedo's on the corsa's aren't overly accurate Also if the 10% margin is allowed, think i'll be ok
Will be rather pissed off if i do get an NIP through the post mind
Just had a thought, theres also the circumference of the wheels and tyres used on the car, this can affect the speedo too

Picked up a Facts leaflet on safety camera's today, under one heading there is the following
Threshholds
There is a tolerance on safety cameras of at least 10% of the speed limit plus 2mph*
*This is to allow for slight inaccuracies in your speedometer. For your own safety and to avoid a ticket you are advised to stick to the speed limit and not to the threshhold
