its not there to help you breathe.
its there to stop people panicking.
if the cabin depressurises at 35000 feet, you're gonna die. they jsut dont want a big fuss, so they fill everyone with oxygen which stops you having a spack attack.

Is that why they give fighter pilots oxygen masks for when they eject at those altitudes and speeds of over 600mph?

i dont trust them (planes not snakes) i quite like snakes actully.
its not having control over your life and if you crash your dead pretty much.

I think people are more scared of the physicalities of the crash as opposed to the percentages/chance figures though, you could get in your car to drive to the airport, and get hit by a truck at a crossroads, then get to the airport and die on a plane, there's nothing to stop it happening.

ive been told this also.
it makes some sence i suppose, its suprising how a small movement when your chin is placed near your chest would break your neck

i dont like flying at all, although i can practicly fly a 737, its being stuck in the cabin i hate, if i was sat in the cockpit i know id be fine
its the constantly not knowing what going on

my sisters an air hostess and apparently theres more chance of surviving than you would first think. the problem is when you hit the floor, the wings come off and the fuel inside the wings catches fire and basically blows up.

what Rob, if an aircraft depressurises at 35000ft, it takes around a minute for the interior of a large aircraft to be deprived of breathable oxygen. explosive depressurisation has happened many times before, and mostly without causing any harm to passengers, as long as they get the masks on ASAP

The plane has 10 minutes of oxygen on it. Thats hardly enough to stop everyone from paniking. It's also hardly enough for it to descend 25000 feet in a comfortable manor as comfortable descent is arounf 1000-1500 ft/min. I see no reason for the oxygen being there.

they proved that you are safer with your head inbetween your legs, they did alot of research, and it's all good

a descent rate of 3000fpm is quite comfortable ed. approaching 4000fpm is quite uncomfortable but in an emergency, quite acceptable. the aircraft can be at a breathable level in around 5-7 minutes
