the Trust 2 picture is the best example of a a bow shock wave as a result pressure chnage
You can sse the light being refracted as it travels through the speed of sound generating the bow shock wave

About 150MPH rising to around 230 for a concorde. But this will depend on the landing strips altitude and flap settings etc.

Under its own jet propulsion, not with the rockets attached to the side for take off.
They don't fly. They fall.

So whois n e good at explaing the sonic boom
Plane travelling faster than the speed of sound, so you will see the plane before you hear it.
For example, if a sniper is 1 mile away from you and fires at a target, you will see the muzzle flash and the bullet will hit the target before you hear the crack of the rifle as the bullet is travelling faster than the speed of sound.
Unless he is a rabit sniper like me who uses sub-sonic amunition to prevent a crack

Is that not speed in relation to the earth when in orbit though, or can it actually achieve that rate when climbing CM?

It can however glide rather well,
NASA pilots have said the Shuttle glides like a bus.
Priceless.

Having to overcome the Earth's gravity is an enourmous factor Jambo, hence the collosal thrust required for take-off and to make orbit.

I think that's the point Ed.
Have you ever seen a bus 'glide'?
As far as I am aware, buses are not recognised by the aerospace or aviation industries for their gliding capabilities.
