Im a graphic designer for an airline and i have just been tasked with the job of re-designing the passenger safety card. I want to use the same kind of artwork that is used for the striker cartoons http://www.striker3d.net/
Does anyone know what programme they might have used to create the charachters. Do you think they were hand drawn then rendered in photoshop or drawn in illustrator?
Any help would be appreciated.

Give them that
Seriously, I believe the people are hand drawn and then as you say, rendered up in PS or similar.

3D Studio Max is what I use, it's a 3D modelling and rendering program, you'd be better with Illustrator I think.

Ash's they've quite possibly been done by hand then scanned in and traced using the vector tool in fireworks/illustrator... or simply done from scratch in illustrator with the vector tool.
To create renders like you've put up on Strike it'd be a case of a program like 3d studio max, bryce, maya, poser 3d, lightwave.etc it's a lot of work to be honest judging on the number of positions they'd have to be in .etc and then imo it'd be a bit of overkill people want it simple nothing complex.

that effect is possible in illustrator and possibily the quickest. But Poser is a program with already made characters you can tweak. They're already rigged too.
I have no real knowledge on how to use illustrator, so i'd go for poser. Just for the fact the basic template is there already.
you can buy already made characters for any 3d program.

example for illistrator work > http://www.deviantart.com/view/6760226/
Digital Painting (personally perfered) > http://www.deviantart.com/view/14008058/
and a tutorial on how > http://www.deviantart.com/view/8183046/
if your good with a pen/pencil, i'd recommend that way, its quickest and looks the best
