Colin - did you read my prev post about you working offshore?

What you going to be doing?

I've done it er.... twice now i think...

I was just interested in folks opinions on it. You hear a lot of folk (that have never done it) saying how scary/hard it is etc

I suppose if you cant swim too well it might be a bit daunting..... but in all reality its a bit like a day at a fun park.

Jumping out of things into water, playing in rafts etc.

It is very Rig oriantaited though.

I havnt done the full lot - but i have done the evacuation procedures down at Hamble near SOuthampton - they have a mock rig there with 3/4 diving lifeboats - the ones suspended at the top of a rig

they were better than a trip round Alton Towers

Mate of mine has just done it and says his instructors really couldn't give a fuck Was told what to do for the helicopter thing, no practice runs or anything just threw them in and bang he was underwater, he said he's never been so scared in all his life Quite worrying when you think he could end up in that situation

its not hard at all..

i'f your a fat bas, or a lass with big jugs you may struggle getting on the raft, flipping it over etc...

Colin - process/instrumentation - whats that all about then?

pmsl....I think half the workforce are fat bastards & they still manage!!

Basically involves operating all the control systems (PLC's etc) monitoring rig conditions & carrying out routine checks, making rig adjustments wherever necessary - doing the leg work to keep things running smoothly!
