i have a family railcard the reason is this
i went to book a train ticket for me and chloe to mums and was £80 return!!
the family railcard was £20 but that meant our return tickets were reduced to £40
i stil saved £20 but the amount of cheap rail travel i have had since is unreal
me and chloe went to southend on the train for £14

coaches are cheap but a) they take ages and b) it's not to everyone's liking
Think train is your only option to be honest mate. Just try and book as early as possible and see if there are any deals about. Some days are cheaper than others as well so you may want to look into that.

My parents have single tickets to Birmingham International from Milton Keynes Central for the grand sum of £4 each, thats even with Virgin. Couldn't get there any cheaper than that.
