just read this review in my Motor mag, they are the same machines as sold in the UK, labelled as the Focus ST220 and VXR Astra.
they ramble on about the pros and cons of each car, but what astonished me is the speed of the damn things.
HSV Astra
0-100 km/h - 5.29 secs
1/4 13.42 @ 176.8km/h
Focus XR5
0-100 km/h - 5.41 secs
1/4 13.52 @ 174.9km/h
those are astonishing times for a standard FWD Turbo car.
BTW they preferred the Astra to the softer Focus

its about as quick as a V8 ute too
these figures are quoted by Motor mag, the largest of the car mags in Australia, testing using very expensive timing equipment on a closed circuit and strip

They're 1/6th quicker to 62 than the Uk versions, must be something different
Still for a FWD car to put that amount of power down you don't expect good standing star ttimes

the country they were tested in. the difference in climate would make a difference.... they were probably tested in colder conditions or something.

Australlia is a hotter country than the UK, turbos like cold air, meaning if anything the UK results would be quicker...

where they test, further inland, daytime temps can be as low as 12-15 degrees... its only 18 here at the moment. and snappy cold mornings down to 3-4 degrees.
Look i dont care what the punters say, all the data was recorded on a VBOX, which are fucking accurate to say the least.
http://www.racelogic.co.uk/?show=VBOX
these times are superb , but i agree there must be another factor as to why they went so quick during testing.
on another note, the Mazda 3 MPS is meant to be even quicker thanks to launch control and a nice LSD.

Personally, I think even if the temps were around 18 degrees that there is no way two different cars would shake a second off their 0-60 time

cold air temps would not knock 1-1.5 seconds off their 60 times lol, i think its a mis print or sometimes cocked up the times somewhere, they should be 6.xx
