I bought myself a set of 5 green ones for a tenner, need to sand down and spray 4 of them. I'll be using wet and dry 1500 to sand them down until they're no longer shiney, then a few coats of plastic primer, and a few coats of paint.
Just wondering if I need to sand and spray them whole or if the bit you lift up actually comes apart from the surround at all, as this would make the job so much easier.

You can pull the pin out and the handle part will come away from the casing bit. Will make life easier.

The lock pulls out, so all you are left with is plastic. Also, you can jam the handle to open position to get paint in all the bits you need

That's what I'd hoped, but the pin has little flared out bits stopping it from sliding out..
Cheers Ed, although it's a bit more tricky, unless I can pull them apart I'll just wedge them open and sand them down that way.

yes they have flared bits
get some clap grip monky claw what ever they are called clamp onto the metal bar at one end pull like hell and rotate the bar wiggle and eventually it pulls through
same proceedure when putting bar back in
mind the spring does shoot off or watch where it goes
